AgManager.info: 2011-2012 Excel Workshops

Program Description

The ability to use Excel spreadsheets allows users to have the capability to benefit from the many Excel calculators and tools publicly available. These day-long workshops will provide hands-on Excel training. The workshops will use laptop computers to allow participants to create their own spreadsheets. Various spreadsheets will be created which will teach the following skills: creating appropriate mathematical formulae and using the correct functions, linking between sheets, using absolute and relative references, formatting, copying, look-up tables, and what-if analysis. In addition, a portion of the afternoon session will introduce several of the Excel tools on the AgManager.info website and allow participants to use these tools in a situation where they can ask questions of the workshop presenters.

10:00 - 10:45 am	Spreadsheet 1: Estimating Machinery Costs Participants create a spreadsheet to estimate machinery costs on their farm. This will utilize the "Sum" and "Sumproduct" functions, as well as routine mathematical calculations

11:00 am - 12:00 pm	Spreadsheet 2: Crop Budgets Develop a spreadsheet with crop budgets, which link input cost information from other sheets, to calculate breakeven prices and yields and to use what-if analysis to view the effects of changes in price and costs on the breakeven values.

12:45 - 1:30 pm	Spreadsheet 3: Principal and Interest Payments Develop a spreadsheet to determine principal and interest payment and the sales needed to cover loan payments, utilizing financial functions in Excel.
1:30 - 2:15 pm	Spreadsheet 4: Adjusted Weaning Weights Calculate the adjusted weaning weight of beef calves, using "If" functions and look-up tables.
2:15 - 2:45 pm	Introduce Decision Tools on AgManager.info Introduce and demonstrate several of the spreadsheet decision tools on AgManager.info.
