- The Enterprise Summaries use
empirical data from Kansas Farm Management Association (KFMA)
member farms. The data are primarily on a calendar year basis,
but include adjustments for changes in livestock inventories and
the investment in growing crops (e.g., winter wheat) from the
beginning to the end of the year.
- Enterprise analysis begins
with the division of all cash and non-cash expenses between crop
production and livestock production. The allocation of
returns, cost of production, and physical production information
is derived from producer records. Unpaid family and operator
labor is allocated using labor standards as a guide. Each
enterprise summary represents the average of all completed
enterprise records, and provide break-even information that can
be used to make enterprise mix decisions and to market
individual commodities.
