Webinar and RAM Workshops to Cover ACRE, SURE, Crop Insurance and Marketing[1]

In general, SURE is a whole farm revenue “insurance” guarantee (crops & hay only).  SURE guarantees the lesser of the SURE guarantee based on a grower’s crop insurance  purchase or 90% of the expected farm revenue; less the value of the crop produced, net crop insurance indemnity payments, and government payments.

The concept is simple but the details are complex and KSU will present a SURE Webinar on Friday, noon CST, February 19, 2010 that will cover these details. The objective of the Webinar is to help farmers answer the question does SURE provide real protection for my farm and if one should change their level or type of crop insurance thus improving the protection provided by SURE.

The registration deadline is Thursday, February 18 at 4:00 p.m.

The Webinar carries a fee for a single user license of $25 per line or $200 for a group. One needs access to a “high” speed internet line for good reception of the Webinar.  Rich Llewelyn (email rvl@ksu.edu or phone 785.532.1504), will help you with any connection questions.  When you register, you will receive an email with login information, including a link for testing to see that your equipment is working.  We will go on line 15 minutes before the start time, to make sure everyone has time to login on February 19.

RAM II.  We are also conducting the first RAM II workshop in McPherson, Kansas on Thursday February 18, 2010 at the 4-H Building at the McPherson County Extension Office. Contact Dale Ladd, 620.241.1523, or dladd@ksu.edu, for more information. This is an all day workshop that provides for “hands on work”.  Participants will make risk management decision for case farm study.  The case farm will include crop insurance, futures, options, forward contracts, ACRE and SURE.  The objective is to help growers managing risk by combining all these tools together.  At the end of the workshop is it expected that growers will have a better understanding of the inter relationships of alternative risk management tools with the new farm programs.  The workshop will use a new computer program for the first time to tract each participant’s decisions.

RAM II was funded by the North Central Risk Management Center and will include workshops at the following additional locations as part of the funding:
