LRP/LGM listening sessions [1] Listed below are the locations for the Livestock Risk Protection (LRP) and Livestock Gross Margin (LGM) listening sessions. Livestock producers are strongly encouraged to attend these meetings to provide their view points on the LRP/LGM contracts. It is your opportunity to suggest and discuss changes to LRP/LGM that will improve these products. The LRP/LGM listening sessions are a part of the USDA-RMA review of the LRP/LGM products that will be presented to the RMA Board of Directors who must approve any changes to LRP/LGM. Kansas State University through Cooperative Extension has completed a number of educational workshops on LRP and will likely do more in the future. This is not an education meeting but simply a listening session for livestock producers to voice their opinions on the LRP/LGM insurance contracts that are backed by USDA-RMA. The lead reviewer of the LRP and LGM products is Watts and Associates, Inc and they are listed as the contact person. I am cooperating with Watts and Associates, Inc on the review and technically Kansas State University is not involved. However, Kansas and surrounding States are large cattle and hog producing states so this is an important issue for livestock producers. Livestock producers, ag lenders, insurance agents, insurance company representatives, county extension agents/educators, extension/research livestock marketing specialists, USDA employees and other interested parties are strongly encouraged to attend. Please attend the meeting closest to you, even if that means crossing state lines. Also, if you have a date conflict please fell free to attend one of the meetings in the other States. It is not necessary for you to be from the state where the meeting is being hosted. Because these meetings are right on top of sales closing many insurance agents will not be able to make any of these meeting dates, but please email us comments. We are also working with RMA to find a method for gathering input from insurance agents at a later date. Livestock producers are currently very busy too because of all of the nice weather (that could change for the better if we get rain) and I encourage you to also send us your comments if you can not make one of these meetings. If you can not make one these meeting but have comments are suggestions on LRP/LGM please email them to Richard Allen, Watts and Associates, Inc. at livestock@wattsandassociates.com or you may email me if that is your preference. We will maintain your confidentiality and will not attach your name to any report.
