  As we progress through this period of challenging economic times for Kansas farms and ranches, we have been handed  some new tools that can be used to help us manage income and self‐employment taxes.  The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act  (TCJA) was signed into law on December 22, 2017, containing several provisions that will enable farm families to more  efficiently manage their tax situations now and in the coming years.  As displayed in the graph on the following page,  average annual statewide Kansas Farm Management Association (KFMA) net accrual farm incomes plummeted in 2015  and have remained at low levels since.  We are now well into the fourth year of this lower income period.  Accordingly,  when managing income and self‐employment taxes now, we should be open to utilizing tools and tax attributes  differently than we do in higher income years.  September …
